Locales
Together with i18n_get_system_locale()
, clock_is_24h_style()
and the corresponding behavior of strftime()
, Gossan now implements the essential Pebble APIs for internationalization. Two additional new watchfaces Velocity and Studio Clock show these in action.
Unfortunately, I realized too late that Playdate's i18n API is currently limited to English and Japanese – which in turn is not part of Pebble's supported set of languages…
So instead of showing another photo of a Playdate, I am instead teasing you with a GIF of Gossan's command line tool. The call
gossan run studio_clock --clock-mode 24h --locale fr_FR
produces the output at the bottom row, second from the right. Although I do have some ideas for the Gossan CLI in the future, right now it's mostly an internal development tool – with some clear advantages over using the Playdate SDK or Pebble SDK. Among them are higher performance than the Pebble emulator, time-lapse mode, easy debugging, and support for parallel instances.
